In some fonts, a plus sign will be drawn higher than another relative to the baseline, even though the bounding box of the text stimulus will be constant. This is also the reason why we recommend that people draw geometric fixation points (which can be controlled precisely), rather than just use a quick and dirty text stimulus containing a + character for example: one has no way of knowing in advance how a given font will draw a given character relative to the baseline. This sort of stuff is really outside of PsychoPy’s control (and you would see exactly the same thing in a word processor: text is aligned on a baseline, rather than on the boundaries of individual glyphs, or else all text documents would look like they had ragged vertical spacing from line to line). note that the position of the text stimulus does not change when you include characters with descenders). The text stimulus itself really has coordinates that relate to an invisible bounding box rather than the limits of the individually rendered glyphs, because it has to cater for the dimensions of all possible characters in the font. The descenders of the top stimulus come down almost as low as your horizontal line.

However, the textStim is not updated.I guess this is all about font rendering: look what happens if you change your text to 'YyXIXyM'.

With the corrected code above, the message actually is updated when I ask to print it. If the message did change, the autodraw would take it into account, is the message is changed and it calls upon the message itself every frame that it should be displayed on.Įdit: I had made a syntax error. However, when I ask to print the message, it still ends up 'Wrong responses: 0'. In my logic, the counter is updated (if I ask to print it, it reflects the change in every iteration). However, after I have changed the code I've linked above to: if not correct : I do realize now, that the message itself isn't updated (only the integer is). PS I elected to use the psychopytextstim object over the sketchpad for text becos with the later I can't see an easy way of modulating. I believe it goes wrong at the variable level of counterMessage, as asking to print it in the output shell also shows a non-updated text.
